Randy Abbey sues Abronye DC for GHC 20m over defamation

Dr. Randy Abbey has reportedly filed a GHC 20 million defamation lawsuit against Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP.

The suit, filed on August 26, 2025, accuses Abronye of making false and malicious claims during a public broadcast, which later circulated widely on social media.

According to court documents, Abronye alleged that Dr. Abbey abused state resources, including using multiple Land Cruisers to transport a personal chair to cocoa farms because he refused to sit on those provided by farmers.

He also accused him of manipulating internal appointments at COCOBOD to enable embezzlement of public funds.

COCOBOD’s legal team argues that these statements are entirely untrue and have severely damaged Dr. Abbey’s reputation, exposing him to public ridicule and contempt.

The suit seeks GHC 20 million in damages, a public retraction, an unqualified apology, the removal of all defamatory content online, and an injunction to prevent further publications.

The acting COCOBOD CEO and veteran broadcaster maintains that the allegations are baseless and intended solely to tarnish his image, while his lawyers emphasise that public discourse must be grounded in facts, especially when it involves individuals in positions of public trust.
