Register all mining machines by August 1 or lose them – Muntaka warns

The Ministry of the Interior, under the leadership of Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, has announced a major directive requiring all machinery used in mining activities across Ghana to be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) by August 1, 2025.

This move, announced via the Ministry’s official Facebook page on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, forms part of the government’s wider reforms aimed at streamlining operations in the mining sector and curbing illegal and unregulated practices.

According to the statement, equipment that remains unregistered beyond the stipulated deadline will be subject to confiscation by the State.

The Ghana Police Service and the DVLA have been tasked with strictly enforcing the new directive starting from August 2, 2025.

The Ministry has urged all individuals and organizations engaged in mining activities to comply with the directive to avoid the risk of losing their equipment.
