Remain focused – Rev. Adom Kyei Duah urges Mahama to ignore cathedral calls

Founder and Leader of the Believers Worship Centre, Rev. Stephen Adom Kyei Duah, has advised President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to ignore renewed appeals for the completion of the National Cathedral and maintain focus on the country’s pressing governance needs.

Speaking during a church service, Rev. Adom Kyei Duah questioned why the project continues to be tied to government responsibility.

“I am advising the NDC government to remain focused. The biggest swimming pool… if God wants a cathedral, would it have anything to do with the government? When Muslims build mosques, do you see any of them going to government?” he said.

His comments come days after the Christian Council of Ghana called on President Mahama to revive the government’s commitment to completing the National Cathedral despite the country’s economic challenges.

During a courtesy visit to the Jubilee House on Tuesday, November 18, the Council acknowledged the difficult financial climate but argued that the project, if handled transparently, could serve as a long-term national asset.

Vice Chairman of the Council, Rev. Enoch Thompson, stated; “While we are aware of the prevailing economic difficulties, we believe that the cathedral’s completion, under a transparent, accountable, and inclusive framework, would serve as a spiritual and cultural landmark for generations to come.”

The Council proposed three recommendations to the government: reaffirm its commitment to the project, establish a broad-based funding model involving churches, the private sector and international partners, and ensure that the cathedral remains a national, interdenominational project intended to promote unity.
