I am still struggling to accept you are gone – Wife of late NDC Vice Chairman

Hannah Sarpong, wife of the late National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Sarpong, delivered a heartfelt and emotional tribute to her husband during an interdenominational state funeral held on Friday, August 15.

Speaking with profound grief and love, Hannah described her late husband as not only her partner but also her steadfast pillar. She shared her struggle to come to terms with his sudden passing and reflected on the indelible mark he left on both their family and the nation.

“My beloved husband, my dearest friend, my steadfast pillar, it’s with the heaviest of hearts that I share this tribute.

“I am still struggling to accept that you are truly gone. You were not just my husband. You were my partner in every sense of the word.

“You stood by me in love, in faith, and under very extreme difficult circumstances. You challenged me to walk through the journey of life,” she said.

Hannah went on to highlight Samuel Sarpong’s unwavering dedication to his family and public service. “You were a man of strength, wisdom, and compassion for me and the family.

“I watched with admiration as you gave your all to your family, your people, and your country. But more than your public service, it was your love and devotion at home that made you truly extraordinary,” she noted.

She fondly remembered the warmth and unity he brought to their home. “You made our home a place of peace, a kingdom of life, and a home of happiness that breeds and reinforces the bond of family unity. You cared for us with such gracious love and led us with such a determined heart. You prayed with us, dreamed with us, and stood by us no matter the season,” Hannah said.

The emotional tribute also captured the shock and pain of his sudden departure. Hannah recalled the last conversation they had on the morning of his fatal journey to Obuasi. “Your departure was so sudden that I still cannot believe it. The news of your departure continues to cut through my very nerves, leaving a vacuum of unimaginable pain in my heart,” she expressed.

Hannah’s speech was a poignant mix of sorrow, reverence, and love, emphasizing the lasting legacy of Samuel Sarpong both at home and in public life. “You ran a good race, my husband. May the doors of heaven be open for you until we meet again. Rest well, my dear husband. Sarpong Kumankuma, nanti yie. Damirefa due,” she concluded.
