Residents rush to collect leaking fuel from tanker despite explosion risk

Panic and chaos erupted earlier today when a fuel tanker began leaking heavily in a community yet to be identified, drawing residents who rushed to the scene with pans and containers to scoop the spilling fuel.

Eyewitnesses reported that some youth hurriedly gathered at the scene, scooping up the highly flammable liquid despite the obvious danger.

The fuel was said to be gushing from underneath the tanker, creating large pools across the ground.

In a moment that captured both irony and desperation, one resident was heard sternly warning others not to bring any naked flames near the site—just as he joined in collecting the fuel himself.

“Don’t bring fire here!” he cautioned, as he scrambled to fill his pan.

The incident raises serious safety concerns, especially in light of past tragedies such as the 2015 Accra flood and explosion disaster, which claimed over 150 lives when leaking fuel ignited at a filling station.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement, but safety experts continue to warn the public against approaching fuel tankers during spills due to the extreme risk of explosion and loss of life.

Emergency services are expected to secure the area to prevent any potential ignition or further chaos.
