We’ve done our duty, issues will be sorted on Monday – Lawyer for Wontumi

The legal representative for the embattled Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, Lawyer Appiah Kubi, has spoken out amid confusion and speculation about his client’s whereabouts. This update comes after reports emerged that EOCO had restricted access to Wontumi, even barring leading NPP members from seeing him.
In a calm but firm statement as sighted by MyNewsGh, Lawyer Appiah Kubi addressed the rumors head-on. “The chairman wants to be a lawyer and he appears to be a lawyer,” he said, hinting at Wontumi’s awareness and engagement in legal processes.
He continued, “We’ve heard from Bawumia, we’ve heard from Alexander Finyomaki. They said they went to NIB, the client is not there. Where is he?” He emphasized that despite the confusion, they know exactly where the chairman is.
Kubi underscored that there is a proper way to handle such matters and urged that attempts to “throw stones when you want to enter the house” are unhelpful.
“If you use the way to do it, you will do it as expected,” he said, making it clear that respect for due process is paramount.
He also spoke about the efforts of public officers, who stayed late to assist the legal team. “We have been seen by the public officers. We’ve done what is dutifully our job to do with genius. We encountered some difficulty which will be sorted out on Monday. Then we will have a fresh slate to operate. We will work towards the desired results,” Kubi stated, assuring that progress is underway.
Addressing the question on everyone’s mind, he confirmed, “Do you know the whereabouts of your client? Oh yes, why not?
“We had brought him to meet with the Vice President, but the situation we saw was difficult to arrange this meeting, to pass through the crowd to get the Vice President to see him and talk to him. So we had to take him back.” He noted that Wontumi’s health condition requires attention, which partly explains the challenges in arranging meetings.
Lawyer Kubi closed his statement by promising to stay out of the political theater surrounding the case. “I beg you all, I will stay out of the politics and the theatre and I’ll do the work within the law. I thank you very much for your support.”
