Revocation of appointments solely based on financial reasons not partisanship – Mohammed Aziz

Former Mion MP who contested on the ticket of the NDC, Mohammed Aziz has dismissed claims that the on-going termination of last-minute appointments and recruitments is a partisan act by the President.

He explained in an interview on TV3’s New Day, February 26 that the revocation of appointments is based on financial challenges and government’s plan to offset the huge debt inherited from the NPP administration.

“We have cited financial reasons for that. If they draw in this argument, is that to admit that they recruited only NPP foot soldiers into public sector and if that was true, is that right? We have given financial reasons anybody outside government can say anything,” he noted.

Mohammed Aziz further noted that government’s finance is not in a good shape for more employment, citing the various debts inherited which needs to be settled.

According to him, government by the termination of the appointments is only ensuring prudent means of expenditure to be able to manage its finances fairly.

“We are dealing with debt of about GHC130million, we are dealing with debt from the Ghana Institutional Suppliers, we are dealing with debt from GETFund close to GHC1billion, school feeding and Independent Power Producers, this is the debt that has been left behind for President Mahama and the NDC to deal with.

“This is at a time the international market has been locked for Ghana. We cannot go out to borrow from the international market like they did. So, we must appreciate this within the context of our national economy,” he stated.

However, Mohammed Aziz emphasised that government will open recruitment window for the affected persons once there’s financial muscle to employ more people.

“Anytime that our finances improve as a government we will open another avenue for these young people to apply and if they so qualify, they will be employed,” he added.
