Rex Omar breaks silence on helicopter disaster

Renowned Highlife musician and Presidential Staffer for the Black Stars Experience, Rex Omar, has called for a full-scale investigation into the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people, including two Cabinet Ministers, in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Speaking during a solemn laying of flowers and candlelight ceremony at the Ceremonial Garden in front of Jubilee House on Thursday, August 7, Rex Omar revealed the personal loss he felt following the death of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
“They were close allies and for Dr. Omane Boamah, we spoke three days ago and even scheduled a meeting for today, but this is the outcome,” he said with visible emotion.
“We should all be strong and continue the good work he started. This is a very, very painful incident, and that is why I endorse full investigations into it. This has never happened to Ghana, so I support the call.”
The crash also claimed the life of Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with two military pilots, a technician, a protocol officer, and two security aides.
Meanwhile, in a televised presidential address, President John Dramani Mahama urged the nation to unite in grief and resilience, cautioning against politicising the tragedy.
“In this moment of national grief, let us remember that we are, above all, Ghanaians – united not just by nationality but by shared hope, shared humanity, and now, shared sorrow. This is not a time for division, speculation, or political point-scoring. It is a time for strength, for empathy, and for the enduring Ghanaian spirit that still stands tall when all else fails,” the President stated.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces, affected ministries, and the National Democratic Congress, emphasising that the legacy of the departed will live on in the spirit of the nation they served.
