Sack yourself or sit up – DCE warns lazy workers

Newly confirmed District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Mr. Andrews Kojo Doodo, has issued a stern warning to workers at the District Assembly who consistently absent themselves from duty.
He threatened to impose an embargo on the salaries of such employees, stressing that government resources must not be wasted on unproductive personnel.
“One cannot receive salaries or waste government resources and sit idle without work being done,” he declared.
Speaking to MyNewsGh.com’s Hajia Asana Gordon shortly after officially assuming office, Mr. Doodo made it clear that his administration would not tolerate absenteeism or laziness. He said workers who fail to report regularly to duty should either prepare for transfer or voluntarily resign.
“I will instruct my Coordinating Director to consult the Human Resource officer to place an embargo on the salaries of any assembly worker who absents themselves, and ensure the funds are returned to the government immediately,” he stated.
According to him, this decisive measure is aimed at motivating staff to take their duties seriously and improve performance across the Assembly.
Mr. Doodo also pledged to work closely with the Member of Parliament for the constituency and Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to pursue an ambitious development agenda for the area.
He noted that the district had been neglected in terms of infrastructure and social intervention projects under the previous administration of the New Patriotic Party (npp).
He identified health, education, and agriculture as his top priorities, and promised to revamp the local farming sector, describing it as the backbone of Ghana’s economy.
Commenting on the state of education, he expressed concern over the poor performance of students in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the district.
He vowed to collaborate with educational heads and other stakeholders to improve academic standards.
During an open forum, some Assembly staff shared their concerns, revealing that they had faced challenges under the previous DCE.
They appealed to Mr. Doodo to provide a staff bus to ease their daily commute, as many struggled with transportation. They also called for the introduction of end-of-year packages, lamenting that staff had gone without such incentives in recent years.
