Sam George announces major DStv package upgrade

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced a significant concession by MultiChoice Africa that will see DStv subscribers in Ghana enjoy enhanced service packages at no extra cost.

Speaking at a media briefing on Monday, September 29, 2025, the minister described the development as an “unprecedented increased value offer” secured through government engagement with the satellite television provider.

“If you’re on the family package, which is currently valued at 190 Ghana cedis, DStv will automatically bump you up to Compact, which ordinarily goes for 380 Ghana cedis,” Sam George explained. “You get 22 more channels and actually get access to live football matches. So anybody on the family package, which previously didn’t get live football matches, would automatically get live football matches. The value savings on this is 50%,” he added.

The new offer means subscribers on the Family bouquet will now have access to premium content, including live sports, previously available only on higher-tier packages.

Sam George highlighted that the move follows weeks of negotiations between the government and MultiChoice aimed at ensuring better value for consumers. He noted that the decision would ease concerns among households that have long complained about rising subscription costs and limited content.
