Sammy Gyamfi’s apology was an insult – NPP Legal team member fires back

A senior figure in the New Patriotic Party’s Legal Directorate, Ishaq Ibrahim, has launched a scathing critique of Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod), over his recent apology following the circulation of a video in which he is seen handing over U.S. dollars to Evangelist Nana Agradaa.

Appearing on Asaase Radio’s The Forum, Ibrahim questioned the sincerity and scope of Gyamfi’s apology, which was directed specifically at members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Look at his apology; it was an insult. Why is the apology directed only to NDC members?” Ibrahim asked pointedly.

He further condemned Gyamfi’s conduct in the video, describing it as morally inappropriate, regardless of the amount involved. “What Sammy Gyamfi did was inappropriate — it is morally wrong. For me, regardless of how much was given, how does he appear like?”

The legal practitioner raised broader concerns about public perception and ethical standards, especially given Gyamfi’s current role at Goldbod. “Now that he is in charge of Goldbod and is seen giving out dollars, what would people say?”

Calling for institutional accountability, Ibrahim urged state bodies to step in and investigate the source of the money seen in the video.

“At least let the state institutions investigate for us to find out how many of such monies he has, where did he get them from?” he said.

He also rebuked the response from the Presidency on the matter, suggesting that a mere cautioning is inadequate. “But to just leave it and say he has been cautioned and then come back to say he has done nothing wrong, then the President is acting unethically,” he argued.
