Saviour Church mourns as 16 youth members laid to rest after fatal crash

Sixteen members of the Saviour Church of Ghana who died in a road accident earlier this week were buried in a mass funeral ceremony held in Obogu, in the Asante Akyem North Municipality.

The victims, all from the church’s youth ministry, were returning from an annual programme in the Eastern Region when their vehicle collided with a fuel tanker on the Atwedie stretch of the Kumasi–Accra highway.

The crash occurred on Monday, July 28, around 2:30 p.m. Preliminary investigations suggest the tanker may have burst a tyre while overtaking another vehicle, causing the head-on collision.

Fifteen of the victims were buried in a large communal grave, while the only child among them was buried separately. The funeral was attended by hundreds of people, including church leaders, families of the deceased, and residents of the town.

Mr. Boateng Asumadu, a church elder, said, “This is a heartbreaking moment not only for the families but for the entire community.

These young souls were full of promise, and their sudden departure is a wound that will take long to heal.”
