Shooting victim to be sent abroad for eye treatment – Asenso-Boakye

Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has pledged his continued support for young Suzzy, also known as Penamang, who sustained severe eye injuries after a tragic shooting incident at her school.
In a statement issued on social media, the MP detailed the assistance he has provided since the incident, including ensuring that Suzzy receives free medical care at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
He said he intervened personally upon hearing of the situation, securing the support of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, who agreed to oversee her treatment.
“As part of my immediate support, I arranged with the hospital so that all medical bills would be fully covered, relieving the family of any financial burden,” Asenso-Boakye said.
However, after a thorough medical assessment, doctors confirmed that Suzzy has suffered severe damage to her eyes. Her family has since expressed interest in seeking advanced treatment abroad to explore further options for her recovery.
In response, Asenso-Boakye said he is actively supporting the family in acquiring travel documents, including a passport and visa for Suzzy, to facilitate her medical transfer. He has also been in contact with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who, according to him, has shown strong willingness to assist.
“I am working with the family to provide all the necessary documents to aid this process. Our priority is to ensure Suzzy gets the best medical attention possible,” he added.
Addressing circulating claims on social media that he has not supported the family, Asenso-Boakye clarified that the woman making those allegations is unknown to Suzzy’s family. He confirmed this after speaking with Suzzy’s brother, Clement, who serves as his main liaison with the family.
“I urge everyone to prioritise the child’s well-being and refrain from spreading misinformation. This is not the time for politicising or sensationalising someone’s trauma,” he cautioned.
Asenso-Boakye reaffirmed his commitment to seeing Suzzy through her journey to recovery, assuring the public that efforts are being made behind the scenes to secure the best possible outcome for her.
