‘Side chick’ Deborah Seyram Adablah jailed 45 days for contempt over judge bias claims

The High Court in Accra has sentenced Deborah Seyram Adablah, a former National Service personnel, to 45 days in prison for contempt of court following her public comments against the judiciary during her legal dispute with a former bank executive.
Adablah was convicted for publishing videos on social media in which she accused a presiding judge of bias, actions the court said undermined its integrity.
The contempt ruling comes in the wake of her sensational 2023 lawsuit against Ernest Kwesi Nimako, a former Chief Finance Officer of a bank, whom she described as her “sugar daddy.”
The lawsuit, which made headlines nationwide, saw Adablah accusing Nimako of breach of promise, sexual harassment, and failure to fulfill a series of financial and personal commitments she claimed he made during their relationship.
Her demands included a car, monthly allowance, three years’ rent, funding for medical expenses, and a lump sum as working capital.
However, the court dismissed the case, ruling that the relationship lacked legal merit because it was rooted in immorality.
The court stated that the promises were made to sustain a relationship that amounted to “fornication,” and therefore could not be enforced under Ghanaian law.
Following the dismissal, Adablah took to social media with a series of videos, one of which directly accused the judge of being partial.
Her actions prompted the court to issue a bench warrant for her arrest.
In response, she released another video indicating her readiness to surrender. A final video, reportedly livestreamed from within the court complex, showed her speaking with security officers as she prepared to be taken to Nsawam Prison.
The court’s ruling and her subsequent conviction bring a dramatic conclusion to one of the most closely watched personal legal battles in recent years, highlighting the boundaries of public commentary on judicial proceedings and the consequences of contempt of court.
