Single-digit inflation and stronger cedi

Veteran satirist and TV host Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM) has commended President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what he described as a “great beginning” in turning Ghana’s economy around.

Speaking on The KSM Show monitored by MyNewsGh, the outspoken anti-corruption campaigner highlighted several positive economic indicators under the current administration, including a reduction in inflation and a stronger cedi.

“For the first time in several years, our inflation is in single digits,” KSM said.

“The cedi is going up to the point that it’s almost at par with the dollar around ten cedis. We were at seventeen once upon a time.”

He stressed that such improvements, if sustained, could lead to a political landslide for the NDC in future elections.

“Trust me, if things stay like this, it’ll be another landslide for the NDC.

“But the question is, how sustainable is this?” he asked. KSM advised the Mahama administration to maintain focus and ensure that current gains are not short-lived.

“Keep the focus so that it is sustainable,” he added. The veteran broadcaster, however, cautioned that no government should become complacent because of early success.

“Every nation-building attempt will have hiccups,” he noted, “but consistency and discipline are what count.”
