Someone will be elected; let it be Bawumia—Kwesi Botchway Jnr

Kwesi Botchway Jnr., a close aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rally behind Bawumia as its flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections, drawing a historic comparison to how the party backed former President John Agyekum Kufuor in the late 1990s.

Speaking during an interview on GHOne TV, Botchway Jnr. reminded party faithful of the unity that propelled the NPP in 1996 and 1998, stressing that Bawumia deserves the same treatment and respect.

“At the end of the day, someone will be elected to become the flagbearer of the party,” he said. “The party did it for President Kufuor in 1996 and 1998, and Dr. Bawumia should not be treated any differently.”

Responding to growing debates within the party over Bawumia’s contributions to government policies and achievements, Botchway insisted the facts speak for themselves.

“Today, we are debating who initiated what, whose idea it was. But the record shows that many of these achievements are Dr. Bawumia’s.”

Botchway didn’t shy away from making his preference clear: “Dr. Bawumia is my choice, and I believe he is the right person to lead us to victory.”
