Speak, Jean Mensa, the nation is watching – Valerie Sawyerr on Ablekuma North impasse

As tensions escalate over the disputed results in the Ablekuma North Constituency, Dr. Valerie Esther Sawyerr is calling out Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa for what she describes as a troubling silence and failure to assert institutional authority.

Dr. Sawyerr, a respected voice in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the EC Chair has shown a lack of leadership in resolving the confusion that followed the destruction of original pink sheets during a violent episode at the collation center in December 2024.

“Where is the bell of the institution supposed to deal fairly with all sides?” she asked rhetorically.

“Where is the voice of decision-making?”She criticized the EC’s alleged preference for accepting scanned documents from one political party—the NPP—without parallel records from the NDC or the EC itself.

According to Sawyerr, this constitutes a serious lapse in neutrality, worsened by the EC’s claim that all political parties had unanimously agreed to the decision—something she describes as “a bold-faced lie.”
