Stop bleaching, get a kidney test – Kemi Olunloyo warns Moyo Lawal

Nigerian investigative journalist and trained pharmacist Dr. Kemi Olunloyo has issued a public warning to Nollywood actress Moyo Lawal, advising her to stop bleaching her skin and get her kidney function tested.
This comes after a recent photo of the actress sparked concerns over her significantly lighter complexion.
Reacting to the image, Olunloyo stated, “Moyo STOP BLEACHING for now. Pls get a kidney function test. The level of hydroquinone in your system is too much. Your face is gelling. Gel filming on your face shows your kidney is melting.”
She further cautioned about the medical implications of prolonged bleaching, particularly when using hydroquinone.
“Bleached folks have kidney issues more. The metabolism of HydroQ is compromised in the filtering organ,” she added in a post sighted by MyNewsGh, highlighting the risk of toxic buildup in the kidneys due to the substance.
Hydroquinone is a chemical commonly used in skin-lightening products. Its long-term use, especially without medical supervision, has been linked to serious health complications, including organ damage.

Moyo Lawal rose to fame through her roles in popular Nigerian television series and films.
A graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos, she gained recognition for her role in the TV drama “Tinsel” and later starred in several Nollywood movies.
She won the award for Revelation of the Year at the 2012 Best of Nollywood Awards and has built a strong following for her work in both acting and fashion.
