Stop media trials and let the courts work – KsTU lecturer tells AG

Dr. Solomon Forkuo-Kwarteng, a senior lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, has called out Ghana’s Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, for what he describes as the misuse of media platforms to prosecute corruption cases.

Reacting to the Attorney General’s recent press briefing on the alleged GH¢548 million payroll fraud involving former National Service Scheme (NSS) officials, Dr. Forkuo-Kwarteng questioned the motive behind public disclosures before legal proceedings begin.

“Is social media your new court or office?” he asked, arguing that such tactics amount to media trials and risk undermining due process.

He urged the AG to focus on real legal actions rather than public showmanship, pointing to the need to repatriate convicted former MASLOC boss, Sedinam Tamakloe, as an example of what true accountability should look like.

According to the lecturer, drawing comparisons with U.S. legal practices doesn’t justify what he sees as premature media engagement, warning that it risks eroding public confidence in the justice system. “This approach will not solve the problem,” he said.
