Stop playing tricks with Ghanaians – Martin Amidu reacts to Duffuor’s case

Martin Amidu has slammed the government’s decision to discontinue the prosecution of former Finance Minister Kwabena Duffuor and others, calling it a blatant misuse of the justice system and a cover for corruption.

“What is the need of the Republic of Ghana extorting monies from Kwabena Duffuor and his cohort of accused persons if they do not admit any guilt?” he questioned in a fiery open letter. “This cannot be criminal justice administration! It is high corruption and abuse of power.”

Amidu took issue with Attorney-General Dominic Ayine’s role in the matter, accusing him of shifting his stance for political convenience.

He pointed out that in 2020, when Ayine represented Duffuor and his firm HODA Holdings, he argued in court that the charges were “grossly misconceived and lacking any legal basis.” Now, in office, Ayine supports a negotiated settlement in the same case — a contradiction Amidu finds deeply troubling.

“There is more than meets the eye in the Government’s decision to resort to the stratagem of nolle prosequi to abort a fair and impartial hearing of the case,” he warned.

Amidu wrapped up his commentary with a call to action, urging citizens to demand accountability beyond partisan lines.

“It is important that patriotic citizens step forward and speak the truth to the Government to stop playing tricks with the intellect of the electorate,” he wrote. “I have spoken up. What of you, fellow citizen? Let us put Ghana First!”
