Stop the theatrics and get to work – Miracles Aboagye to NDC over galamsey

Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has criticised the NDC administration’s handling of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, accusing the government of failing to confront the menace with seriousness and clarity.
Aboagye urged the government to come to terms with the situation and abandon what he described as performative actions.
“It’s time for this government to pause, stop the theatrics, and admit the reality,” he said on JoyNews’ Newsfile.
“We all make mistakes. Galamsey has defeated this NDC government before they even started the fight. The government is completely down when it comes to this fight.”
He recounted how the re-emergence of galamsey operations became inevitable once restrictions were lifted.
“Immediately the ban was lifted, the criminals went back. Six months later, the whole problem started again,” he noted.
Aboagye argued that by 2021, public perception of political parties in relation to the galamsey issue had shifted dramatically.
“By 2021, galamseyers saw the NDC as a friend and the NPP as a foe. We can’t sit here and pretend,” he stated.
He further challenged the current government to provide a clear framework or strategy for addressing illegal mining.
“One year of your administration is almost gone. What is the NDC’s policy direction or blueprint to fight galamsey? None,” he asserted.
