Students collapse as fire ravages Kadjebi-Asato SHS dormitory

The boys’ dormitory room at Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School in the Oti Region was ravaged by fire on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, leaving several students collapsing from exhaustion as they struggled to save belongings, according to JoyNews’ Oti Regional Correspondent, Peter Senoo.

The blaze, reported around 9 a.m. on December 2, gutted the room completely, consuming students’ property and burning the roofing structure.

No items were recovered by the time the fire was brought under control.

Firefighters faced major challenges, as the Ghana National Fire Service was unable to deploy an operational tender.

The district’s fire engine is currently out of service, forcing personnel to rely on improvised methods to contain the flames.

The situation triggered widespread panic, with multiple students passing out from fatigue and distress as they attempted to assist.

School authorities and community members moved quickly to stabilise the affected students, who have since received attention.
