Supreme Court quashes contempt conviction against Akwatia MP

The Supreme Court has overturned the contempt conviction of Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi, nullifying a bench warrant issued by the Koforidua High Court..

The warrant, authorised by Justice Emmanuel Senyo Amadehe, followed Mr. Kumi’s conviction for contempt.

However, the apex court ruled on Wednesday, June 11, that the judge can no longer proceed with sentencing the MP.

The decision, delivered by a 4–1 majority, effectively ends the case.

While Justice Gabriel Pwamang dissented, Justices Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, Ernest Gaewu, Henry Kwofi, and Adjei Frimpong backed the ruling.
