Suspect arrested in Immigration Officer’s murder

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, whose burnt body was discovered on July 9, 2025, near GBC Satellite in Accra.
According to a statement issued by the Regional Public Affairs Unit, the officer had been reported missing since July 4.
“The Accra Regional Police Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Stephen King Amoah,” the release stated.
Police discovered a “severely burnt body in the said location” on the morning of July 9 and conveyed it to the Police Hospital morgue.
Investigators from the Taifa Police joined the scene and later moved to the morgue with the complainant and six other relatives.
Despite the body’s burnt condition, the family was able to positively identify it as that of the missing officer.
Investigations revealed that on the night of July 3, Stephen King Amoah had left his Ashongman Estate residence to meet a man named Bright Aweh, who had allegedly sent him images of cash on WhatsApp to settle a debt.
Amoah never returned and his phone was switched off thereafter.
Police later arrested Bright Aweh, who allegedly confessed to giving the officer GH¢500,000 in cash.
He claimed to have directed the deceased to use part of the money to pay off certain debts and hold the remaining amount for collection.
However, he reportedly gave conflicting statements and could not clearly explain the source of the money.
The Ghana Police Service condemned the crime in strong terms.
“The Regional Police Command strongly condemns such violent and criminal acts and assures the public that it is working diligently to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this incident and bring all responsible persons to justice,” the statement emphasized.
The public has been urged to assist with any relevant information.
