Suspects arrested over GH₵1,500 postings to Bank Hospital, Korle-Bu

The Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Felix Gyamfi, has revealed that three individuals are currently in the custody of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) over allegations of extorting money from prospective National Service personnel.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Gyamfi stated that the suspects allegedly demanded sums of no less than GH₵1,500 from applicants in exchange for posting them to high-demand institutions, including the Bank Hospital and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

He noted that the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to root out corruption within the posting process.

“Some people have made up their minds to extort money to post others to top facilities,” Mr. Gyamfi said. “They are now with the NIB. Some have turned this into a business.”

While acknowledging the legal restrictions that may prevent the publication of the suspects’ photos, Mr. Gyamfi emphasized that he was determined to tackle the issue head-on.

“We may be restricted from publishing their photos, but I will deal with this matter,” he stressed.

He further remarked that leadership plays a critical role in either curbing or enabling misconduct, adding that he was committed to building a legacy based on integrity.

“Most of our problems are leadership-related,” he said. “If the leader doesn’t create the right impression, how will the followers behave any differently?”

Mr. Gyamfi also issued a warning to staff and stakeholders, urging them to uphold ethical standards and avoid actions that could undermine the credibility of the National Service scheme.
