Suspended CJ betrayed public trust – Suhuyini

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Hamza Suhuyini, has criticized suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo over her recent public address, arguing that her conduct justifies her removal from office.

In an interview with Starr FM, Suhuyini said the Chief Justice’s decision to comment publicly on her ongoing impeachment proceedings was a direct violation of the law and a betrayal of the responsibilities entrusted to her office.

“The people of this country pay to ensure that she benefits from those privileges. So the least she can do is to uphold and respect our laws.

“And for me, she betrayed that principle and justifies the reason why she should be taken out of office,” he stated.

Suhuyini described her actions as a clear example of “stated misbehaviour,” referencing her application to the Supreme Court requesting a public hearing of the proceedings against her—a request that was unanimously dismissed.

“These are the very arguments you took to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Ghana arguing that you needed the proceedings to be made public.

“Your colleagues, many years you sat on cases with them… looked into your face… They sat, looked at your application and concluded that it had no merit and threw you out and directed that the proceedings should still be held in camera.”

He further pointed out that none of the Supreme Court justices who ruled against her were appointed by President Mahama, undermining any notion of political bias.
