Tensions rise as youth reject Ebi Bright’s rumoured mayoral appointment

A wave of discontent swept through the Tema Metropolitan Assembly on Friday as a group of agitated youth stormed the premises, demanding that President John Dramani Mahama appoint a native of Tema as the next mayor.

The protest, fueled by growing rumours of Ebi Bright’s consideration for the role, was marked by burning car tyres and the intense beating of drums, a vivid display of their resistance.

At the heart of their concerns is the belief that the selection process has been sidestepped, and the community’s voice overlooked.

Speaking to the media during the protest, Dora Sappor, a member of the group, did not mince words.

“We are here with a heavy heart to register our displeasure. We are hearing that Ebi Bright is to be made the Mayor of Tema, but that is not going to happen.

“She was not even part of the whole process, so why are they bringing her to be the mayor? This is something we will not understand,” she stated.

The youth argue that Ebi Bright’s name never surfaced during initial consultations and maintain that her potential appointment undermines the expectations of local stakeholders.

They pointed to Patience Ankamah Addo as the widely accepted choice, based on prior discussions and perceived involvement in community development.
