The biggest hotel in Africa is my idea — Bryan Acheampong

NPP flagbearer aspirant Bryan Acheampong has highlighted his track record of bold ideas and practical solutions, insisting that his vision has already saved Ghana significant resources.
Speaking to party faithful, Acheampong described himself as a problem solver whose initiatives have transformed both government operations and private sector growth.
“The biggest hotel in Africa is my idea. The longest airport runway in the world is my idea. I solved big problems that this country confronted,” he declared.
He pointed to his role in cleaning up the national payroll system.
“Ghost names, I removed over 50,000 people from the payroll through my software. That was my idea,” Acheampong stressed, adding that the companies he currently runs employ over 1,000 people in his community.
Challenging his competitors, he urged the public to examine the tangible impact of their ideas.
“Those who are competing with me should go to their communities and find out how their ideas have translated into action,” he said.
Acheampong also recounted his controversial decision to cancel the long-standing cocoa syndication loan, a move he argued has saved Ghana millions in interest payments.
“Since 1947, we have always gone for syndication, $2 billion at 10% interest, meaning $200 million in interest. I said I was going to cancel syndication,” he explained.
Despite initial opposition within cabinet, he said his stance prevailed.
“Everybody was against me. Nana Akufo-Addo took a chance on my decision. For the first time, in 2024, we did not do syndication,” he recalled.
According to Acheampong, his strategy was simple:
“If you want Ghana cocoa, bring your money. We will go and buy the cocoa and supply it to you. I’m not going to take a loan, pay interest, and then supply you. Simple, common sense, co-business calculation.”
He stressed that the new approach has reversed the country’s fortunes.
“Today, the cocoa buyers are bringing their money, depositing, and we are even getting interest on the money. That’s the difference. That’s the kind of things that I do,” Acheampong said.
The former minister believes his record of turning “ideas into bold action” makes him best placed to lead the New Patriotic Party into the future.
