The cheers at the delegates conference was meant to console Bawumia over NPP’s heavy defeat

Former Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has explained that cheers for the former vice president of Ghana at the New Patriotic Party’s National Delegates Conference were meant to console him.

He says several months after a heavy defeat in the 2024 elections, the delegates who were cheering the former vice president were just consoling him and assuring him to put his trust in the lord.

To him, there is no cause for alarm for him and his team because they believe that those present were not the full complement of the electoral college and will have no effect on the January 31, 2026, primaries.

“I don’t think the cheers were endorsements. Rather, I think they were just consoling the former vice president after the heavy defeat in the 2024 elections. They were saying they do not see him on television, and so seeing that he was in good health and was looking good after leaving power, they had to cheer him,” he said while speaking on Accra-based Adom FM.

He continued, “in any case, the people who came for the delegates conference are not the ones who wield the power to choose who the flagbearer for the party will be.”

After the delegates’ conference, Kennedy Agyapong’s camp, through his spokesperson, complained bitterly about the undue advantage given to the former vice president over other candidates who have expressed interest in contesting for the position.
