The helicopter did not explode mid-air – Col Festus Aboagye

Security expert, Col. Festus Aboagye, has cautioned the public and media against drawing premature conclusions about the cause of the August 6 helicopter crash at Adansi Afuokrom in the Ashanti Region.

Col. Aboagye sought to correct some narratives surrounding the tragic incident.

“I want to dispel the notion that the helicopter exploded mid-air. If it did, thanks to the media, we would have seen that the fire would have burned the tree tops,” he stated on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, August 16.

The retired colonel stressed the importance of restraint and accuracy when discussing national tragedies of this nature.

“We must be careful in stating categorically what caused the crash when we don’t know the full facts. We must be careful in presuming the cause,” he emphasized.

Col. Aboagye also commended the swift response of state agencies that rushed to the scene, clarifying misconceptions about the presence of unidentified personnel.

“Institutions worked to the best of their knowledge. Some of the people there in mufti were from national security, NADMO. They were there in ordinary dresses,” he explained.

His remarks add to the growing call for patience as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
