The police must apologize for this reckless arrest – ACSC

The Africa Center for Security and Counterterrorism (ACSC) has condemned the wrongful arrest of three innocent siblings in Kumasi, accusing the police of unprofessionalism and demanding urgent reforms.
“This is a deeply troubling breakdown in police procedure and accountability,” ACSC stated, stressing that law enforcement must uphold due process.
Reports indicate that officers arrested the young men without probable cause while pursuing a murder suspect. “Instead of conducting a proper investigation, the police hastily paraded them as murderers, destroying their reputations and livelihoods,” the organization noted.
Two of the brothers have since lost their jobs, while their mother had to plead for their release. “The police must apologize with the same visibility they used to humiliate them,” ACSC insisted.
Calling for disciplinary action against officers involved, the organization also urged the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police to ensure accountability.
“This is not just about one case—if officers can arrest and disgrace innocent citizens without consequence, what does that say about our justice system?” ACSC questioned.
It further demanded policy reforms to prevent public displays of suspects before formal charges and called for an independent investigation into the systemic failures that led to this incident.
“The principle of innocence until proven guilty seems completely ignored here,” ACSC emphasized. “If citizens fear arbitrary arrests more than they trust the police, we have a crisis.”
The organization concluded that law enforcement must restore professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights, warning that such abuses erode public trust and weaken the justice system.
