The public deserve to know Ayine’s past with Duffuor – Amidu

Martin Amidu has accused Attorney-General Dominic Ayine of misconduct, claiming he deliberately withheld vital information from the public regarding his prior legal relationship with parties in the recently withdrawn case involving former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor.

Amidu emphasized that Ayine’s failure to disclose these ties “taints not only the legitimacy of the decision to drop the charges, but also the entire press briefing,” describing it as a “palpable and deliberate omission” that erodes public trust in Ghana’s justice system.

He further revealed that the lawyers who approached the Attorney-General with a settlement proposal in March 2025 were the same legal colleagues Ayine had worked with during his time as counsel for Duffuor and HODA Holdings.

“The public was as a matter of right entitled to be informed… that the lawyers for the Unibank directors and shareholders who approached him… were former colleagues in the case,” the Former Special Prosecutor and Attorney-General stressed.

This development deepens concerns around the controversial July 22, 2025, nolle prosequi entered by the Attorney-General, which halted the prosecution of Duffuor and others. Critics argue that the move reflects a troubling pattern of political interference and lack of transparency in prosecutorial decisions—especially in high-profile financial and political cases.

The controversy continues to stoke debate over whether the Attorney-General’s office, under the current administration, is acting with the independence and ethical standards expected by Ghanaians.
