Ghanaian rapper Tulenkey has finally broken his silence—literally and symbolically—about his striking appearance at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs), where he attended the event with his lips sealed shut using black masking tape.
In an interview on 3FM, the artist revealed that his choice of expression was not a publicity stunt but a bold commentary on the emotional repression men often endure.
“It’s a message. It speaks of what men go through—the inner battles we fight,” Tulenkey explained.
“Because being a man, when you are vulnerable, when you talk about your emotions, you are seen as weak. So they would rather die inside than let it out. The tape symbolised suffering in silence.”
Held on May 10, 2025, the TGMAs saw Tulenkey make a hauntingly silent appearance dressed in an all-black suit, his lips covered in tape.
The rapper made no public statement at the ceremony, communicating only through gestures—even when he was called up to receive his award for Best Hiplife Song.
His silent performance stood in sharp contrast to the glitz and cheers of the night and has since sparked widespread discussion on social media about male mental health and artistic expression.
Tulenkey, born Chief Osei Bonsu, has become known for his sharp lyrics and bold storytelling in the Ghanaian music scene.
He rose to prominence with his breakout single “Proud Fvck Boys”, which resonated with youth for its unapologetic honesty and social commentary.
