There may be a youth uprising soon if unemployment is not addressed—Dr. Tia Mahama

Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr Tia Mahama, is of the view that Ghana is sitting on a time bomb.
He says, considering the number of youth who showed up for enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces, it is a clear indication that the issue is now a national security threat.
Dr Tia Mahama was speaking on Accra-based Joy News when he made this known.
To him, the youth of Ghana may rise against their leaders and turn the country upside down in the future if something is not done about it.
He called for legislation in a manner that won’t let any government derail from it.
“It talks to the whole issue of employment for the youth. For the military alone, people who want to join the military to enlist alone are over 21,000 in Accra talks about the fact that we have a ticking time bomb, and if we don’t do something about it, one day the youth will turn the youth upside down,” he said.
Adding that “I think that we need to tackle unemployment with a very systematic policy framework. Fortunately, we are having a constitutional review, so if it demands legislating it in a manner that won’t let any government derail from it, consciously we must be thinking about that so that we can address the long-term issue of unemployment in the country”.
