There was no agreement with the EC – NPP fumes over Ablekuma North rerun

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has firmly rejected the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, describing the move as unjustified and unagreed upon.
The Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, expressed shock and dissatisfaction with the EC’s announcement, insisting that the party was not part of any consensus reached to rerun the election.
“Our representatives were at the meeting, and I have to put it on record that there was no such agreement with the EC.
“That is very evident in the release of the EC itself—that the political parties did not agree,” Haruna stated in an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News.
He accused the Electoral Commission of taking a unilateral decision and hinted at political manipulation.
“We don’t know what the EC is up to. The NPP is not going to give up on this particular fight. We don’t know of any elections.
“The EC must conclude the collation on the three polling stations—this is still outstanding, and that is clear for us,” he added.
The EC, in a statement dated July 2, 2025, explained that its decision was based on the discovery that scanned pink sheets used during the initial collation of results from 19 polling stations were not verified by Presiding Officers. The original pink sheets were reportedly destroyed after chaos erupted at the collation centre, where party supporters allegedly stormed the premises.
Despite the opposition from the NPP, the Electoral Commission has scheduled the rerun for Friday, July 11, 2025, assuring Ghanaians of a peaceful, transparent process. The Ghana Police Service has also been tasked with maintaining order at the affected polling stations.
