There’s a need for increased representation of women, children in climate discourse

Former Second Lady of Ghana, Hajia Samira Bawumia, has reiterated the need for increased representation of women and children in deliberations on climate change and related themes in the quest to create opportunities for climate action.

Her Excellency Samira Bawumia made this known in a communique isssued after a two-day conference by the Africa Women and Children Conference( AFRIWOCC), which she is Chairperson and Founder.

“…Our conference communique highlighted the need for increased representation of women and children in climate discourse, equitable access to finance, the inclusion of indigenous knowledge, and widespread climate education for a climate-resilient Africa,” she stated in a statement after the two-day meeting.

The 2025 edition of the Africa Women and Children Conference, which had distinguished personalities, such as youth leaders, Entrepreneurs, Students, Development Partners, Diplomats and Innovators in attendance, discussed various themes on innovation and inclusivity in the fight against climate change.

This year’s conference was under the theme: “Young Voices, Innovative Ideas, Greater Impact for Africa”.

H.E Bawumia expressed gratitude all who made the conference possible, stressing that AFRIWOCC would endeavor to provide opportunities for women and the youth to fight against climate change.

“Many thanks to our incredible team, partners, speakers, delegates, participants, and all who made this a success. AFRIWOCC is committed to providing our young people with the necessary support and platforms to contribute to climate action,” she assured.
