They never had the space to shine in the NPP — Alan Kyerematen on his exit from the NPP

Alan Kyerematen has suggested that his split from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the rise of the Movement for Change were partly driven by frustration over what he described as a lack of space for capable individuals to thrive within his former party.
Reflecting on the transition from the Movement for Change to the newly launched United Party, Kyerematen said many of the group’s most influential figures had long been members of the NPP but were unable to express their full potential until they broke away.
“The matter speaks for itself,” he stated in an interview on TV3 monitored by MyNewsGh.
“If you didn’t hear about them when they were in the NPP and now they are excelling in the Movement for Change, it shows that they never had the opportunity to shine.”
Kyerematen argued that the structure of his new political organisation encourages merit and creativity rather than internal suppression.
“Our movement was built to allow people to unleash their potential—to express themselves freely and blossom,” he explained.
He pointed to the “Great Transformational Plan,” the Movement’s comprehensive policy blueprint released before both major parties published their manifestos, as proof of his team’s capacity for original policy thinking.
“We were the first to put forward a detailed, implementable policy framework,” he said. “That’s not a manifesto of promises, it’s a plan for transformation.”
For Kyerematen, the movement’s intellectual freedom and vibrancy stand as evidence of what he calls the stagnation within the old order.
“If they couldn’t achieve this quality of work within the NPP but could outside of it, that tells you everything you need to know,” he added.
