This flagbearer race is just peppering over real issues – Dr. Cobbah

Former Principal Lecturer at GIMPA, Dr. Josiah Cobbah, has criticised the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to fast-track its flagbearer election process, warning that it risks masking more pressing internal problems.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day during the Hot Issues segment, Dr. Cobbah said the recent meeting and announcement regarding the party’s flagbearer contest seem more like an attempt to gloss over unresolved tensions.
“For me, the recent meeting and the announcement about the flagbearer contest is like peppering over what needs to be looked at,” he stated.
He urged the party to dig deeper into its challenges rather than rush through a top-down process that could backfire.
“They need to do more than that, and I think that the party needs to understand that our democracy is improving and a lot of us can read into what is going on.
“They should take it easy and deal with the issues that are really confronting the party.”
Dr. Cobbah also questioned the legality and fairness of the approach, saying, “I think this hurriedly thought of top-to-bottom process of hurriedly electing a flagbearer even flies in the face of their constitution.”
His comments come amid growing public discourse on internal divisions within the NPP and concerns over how the party intends to navigate its future leadership ahead of the next general elections.
