This has been very difficult – Angela Ofori-Atta opens up on husband’s health

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has successfully undergone surgery for prostate cancer at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, his family has confirmed.

In a statement issued on Monday, June 16, his wife, Professor Angela Ofori-Atta, revealed that the procedure, a robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy, took place on Friday, June 13, and lasted over four hours.

“The doctors are pleased with how the procedure went and will now place him on a postoperative regime,” Prof. Ofori-Atta stated.

She acknowledged the strain the family has endured, especially following the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) decision to issue a red alert on Mr. Ofori-Atta days before his surgery.

“Kenneth has always been resilient. But this has been very difficult; with the OSP choosing the period just before his surgery to declare a red alert on him,” she said, suggesting the timing had added unnecessary emotional pressure to an already critical moment.

Despite the ordeal, she expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of support.

“Our family is truly grateful for the support and prayers of many people and pastors.”

Mr. Ofori-Atta, who served as Ghana’s Finance Minister from 2017 to 2023, has maintained a low public profile since leaving office.
