This is a heartbreaking moment – Mahama pays tribute to fallen officers

President John Dramani Mahama has shared an emotional tribute following the tragic helicopter crash on August 6 in the Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of eight people.

Addressing the nation in a live televised statement, President Mahama revealed that he had a personal connection with those who lost their lives, particularly highlighting the dedication and commitment of the naval officers who were on board the ill-fated aircraft.

“This is a heartbreaking moment. The pain is personal, as I knew several of them closely. The officers onboard, too, were some of the most committed in our Navy,” he said, his voice heavy with emotion.

The president extended his condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them that the entire nation stands with them in this period of grief. “On behalf of the people of Ghana, I offer our deepest sympathies. This is a national loss, and we mourn with you,” he said.

President Mahama also took a moment to remember Dr. Omane Boamah and Hon. Murtala Mohammed, offering poignant remarks in their honour.
