This is an opportunity for the President to send a strong message – Mary Adah on Sammy Gyamfi Video

The Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Mary Addah, has urged President John Mahama to move beyond public proclamations and take firm action in response to a video showing the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, gifting money to the controversial religious figure, Nana Agradaa.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Addah expressed concern over the lack of ethical accountability within political leadership, stressing that the incident should not be brushed aside. “What happened cannot be classified as decent behaviour expected of an official,” she stated.

She noted that while calls for integrity and ethical conduct are often made by political leaders, those declarations must be matched by concrete action—especially when senior party officials are involved.

“If we do not see action followed by these proclamations, we again come to the issue of rhetoric not paid by action,” she warned. “This is an opportunity for the President to send a strong message that unethical behaviour, even by senior party officials, will not be tolerated.”

Addah’s comments follow growing public scrutiny of the video in which Sammy Gyamfi is seen handing over a sum of money to Nana Agradaa, a figure whose reputation and past actions have often sparked controversy.

While some have defended the gesture as harmless or personal, critics argue that the optics are problematic and raise questions about accountability and the example set by party leadership.
