This is just the beginning – Mahama on 24-Hour Economy rollout

President John Dramani Mahama has formally launched Ghana’s long-awaited 24-Hour Economy policy, marking a major turning point in the country’s economic transformation agenda.
The launch, held in Accra on Wednesday, July 2, signifies a shift from political campaign rhetoric to full-scale implementation aimed at expanding opportunities and boosting national productivity.
“We have moved from slogan to strategy today. In 2024, the idea of a 24-hour economy captured national attention. It became a slogan of hope, a symbol that change was necessary and that it was possible,” President Mahama declared.
He emphasised that the policy’s real value lies not just in extended working hours but in structured interventions that unlock Ghana’s economic potential.
“Let me be clear here, the 24+ Agenda is not just about extending working hours. It is about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunities, [and] accelerating export through well-structured and inclusive interventions,” he said.
President Mahama described the launch as “the beginning of a massive national mobilisation,” adding that the focus going forward is on results, impact, and tangible benefits for all Ghanaians.
The 24-Hour Economy, which was one of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s flagship promises during the 2024 elections, is designed to operate across key sectors such as agro-processing, manufacturing, transport, health, and digital services.
The policy aims to address rising unemployment, improve service delivery, and make Ghana’s economy more globally competitive.
