This is the leadership ECG needs – IPGG boss on new board

Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Power Generators Ghana (IPGG), Dr Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, has endorsed the new Board of Directors appointed to steer the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), describing the team as a strong step toward revitalising the power distributor.
In a statement issued following the board’s announcement, Dr Apetorgbor commended the Minister for Energy and Green Transition for what he called a “thoughtful and strategic composition” of the ECG Board.
“Special commendation goes to the Chairman of the Board, Ing. Dr. William Amuna, whose extensive experience and deep knowledge of Ghana’s energy sector provide solid leadership and strategic oversight,” he said.
Dr Apetorgbor expressed particular confidence in Dr Amuna’s ability to guide the ECG through critical reforms, citing his background in sector planning and utility operations.
“His proven track record in sector planning and utility operations offers ECG a much-needed compass at this critical juncture. His insight will be instrumental in diagnosing and advising on ECG’s unacceptable and avoidable cost structure, a major impediment to operational efficiency and financial viability,” he emphasized.
According to the IPGG head, Ghana’s power sector can only thrive under capable leadership matched with competent management. He believes ECG now has a real shot at transformation.
“If these two distinguished professionals can be supported by a knowledgeable and capable management team, I am confident that ECG is poised for recovery, improved governance, and long-term sustainability. This is the leadership ECG needs to deliver on its mandate and regain the trust of its stakeholders,” he stated.
