Three dead, others injured in violent clash at Agona Abodom during Akwanbo festival

Three people have reportedly been killed, with several others critically injured, following a violent clash between suspected land guards and members of the Agona Abodom community during the 2025 Akwanbo Festival.

The incident occurred at Agona Abodom, a farming community in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region, which has recently emerged from decades of chieftaincy disputes.

According to reports, the chaos erupted when a rival faction allegedly mobilised land guards to disrupt the festival celebrations. The attack led to the destruction of two vehicles and several properties, including furniture at the chief’s palace.

MyNewsGh.com correspondent, Hajia Asana Gordon, spoke to an eyewitness, Kwame Arhin, who confirmed the deaths and stated that many more have sustained life-threatening injuries.

“Three people have lost their lives and several others are in critical condition,” Arhin told the reporter.

Residents say they now live in fear and are calling for immediate military and police intervention to restore calm and ensure their safety.

Alex Donkor, the Assembly Member for the Agona Abodom Electoral Area, also appealed for urgent security reinforcements.

“The situation is getting out of hand. We need more security personnel to maintain peace and prevent further violence,” he said.
