Thunderstorms expected across parts of Ghana this afternoon

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) has issued its 24-hour weather forecast, highlighting a blend of misty mornings and afternoon thunderstorms across various parts of the country.

This morning, mist and fog patches were expected along the coastal belt and in mountainous and forested areas such as Ho, Koforidua, and Kumasi.

A low chance of early rainfall was anticipated along parts of the coastline, including Accra, Takoradi, and Cape Coast. Elsewhere, the morning started partly cloudy with mild temperatures.

As the day progresses, sunny intervals are forecast to dominate, especially in the middle and northern sectors.

However, the weather is expected to take a turn by afternoon into evening, with thunderstorms and rain of varying intensities likely to affect the coast, middle belt, transition zone, and northern regions.

Cities such as Accra, Kasoa, and Takoradi have a 30–40% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, while inland towns like Koforidua, Akim Oda, and Kintampo may experience up to 60% chances of thunderstorms.

In the north, Yendi, Bolgatanga, and Wa are also forecast to see isolated rain or thunderstorm activity later in the day.

Temperatures are expected to remain warm, with highs reaching up to 36°C in parts of the north including Nalerigu and Wa, while coastal cities such as Takoradi and Axim will remain relatively cooler at around 30–31°C.

Residents are advised to stay alert, especially in areas prone to heavy rains and possible lightning activity in the afternoon and evening hours.
