Thunderstorms expected in Accra, Kasoa, Kumasi and Tamale this evening

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a 24-hour weather forecast indicating a mix of misty conditions, sunshine, and thunderstorms across various parts of the country on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

According to the forecast, the early morning hours will see mist and fog patches developing over mountainous and forested areas.

There is also a 40% chance of thunderstorms—with or without rainfall—along some coastal and inland areas including Accra, Kasoa, Cape Coast, Axim, and Aflao.

As the day progresses, much of the country is expected to experience sunny intervals with occasional cloud cover.

However, GMet warns that from late afternoon into the evening, isolated thunderstorms—again with or without rain—are expected to impact the middle belt, transitional zones, and northern parts of the country.

Regional Outlook:

  • Coastal Areas: Cities like Accra, Kasoa, and Cape Coast will start the day with a slight chance of thunderstorms (40%) and transition into mostly sunny weather by afternoon, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 32°C. The evening is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy.
  • Forest and Middle Belt: Mist is forecast for the morning in places like Koforidua, Akim Oda, Kumasi, and Sunyani. Thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening with temperatures peaking at around 33°C to 35°C.
  • Northern Sector: Locations including Tamale, Yendi, and Bole will be mostly sunny during the day with temperatures reaching up to 38°C. Evening thunderstorms are anticipated across many of these northern towns.

GMet has advised the public, especially residents in areas expected to experience thunderstorms, to take necessary precautions and stay alert to changing weather conditions.
