Thunderstorms expected in several parts of Ghana today – GMET warns

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) has issued a weather alert indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country today, Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

According to GMET, misty conditions are expected early in the morning over forested and mountainous areas, which may reduce visibility and affect early morning travel.

Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are forecast to occur in coastal and some inland areas during the morning and afternoon hours.

Later in the day, parts of the middle and transition zones are also expected to experience thunderstorms, with or without rain, from late afternoon into the evening. A few areas in the northern sector may also be affected during the evening.

Temperature forecasts for the day indicate high heat across the country. The northern sector will experience the hottest conditions, with maximum temperatures reaching up to 41°C.

The transition zone is expected to record up to 36°C, the forest zone 35°C, and the coastal zone 33°C. Minimum temperatures across the zones will range from 23°C to 25°C.

GMET is advising the public to take the necessary precautions, particularly in areas likely to experience strong winds and heavy rainfall. Commuters and motorists are also urged to exercise caution due to possible reduced visibility from early morning mist and rain.
