Thunderstorms likely in parts of Ghana this afternoon

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued its 24-hour weather forecast, predicting widespread cloudy conditions with localized rainfall and thunderstorms expected across the country today.
According to the forecast, mist and fog patches formed during the early morning hours, especially along the coastal, forest, and mountainous areas.
These conditions have contributed to a generally overcast start to the day across all sectors of the country.
Rainfall is expected in some coastal and inland areas during the morning, while the rest of the day will remain mostly cloudy with intermittent periods of sunshine.
However, GMet warns of potential thunderstorms—with or without accompanying rain—expected to develop over parts of the coastal, middle, transition, and northern sectors from the afternoon into the evening.
Regional Weather Outlook:
- Southern Ghana: Cities like Accra, Kasoa, Takoradi, and Cape Coast have a 30–60% chance of rain or thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon. Morning mist was reported in areas like Koforidua, Axim, and Tarkwa.
- Middle Belt: Locations such as Kumasi, Sunyani, and Techiman can expect thunderstorms later in the day, with earlier misty conditions reported in the morning.
- Northern Ghana: The northern regions, including Tamale, Bolgatanga, and Wa, will experience partly sunny intervals during the afternoon, with a possibility of thunderstorms developing by evening in areas like Bole, Damongo, and Wa.
Temperature forecasts show afternoon highs ranging between 30°C and 35°C across most areas, with relatively cooler evening temperatures in the mid-20s.
GMet advises the public to stay informed on real-time updates and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to thunderstorms and reduced visibility due to mist or fog.
