Touching wreckage can be dangerous – Prof. Adjekum warns

Aeronautics expert and aircraft accident investigator, Professor Kwesi Adjekum, has warned residents against handling debris from the recent military helicopter crash.

Prof. Adjekum stressed that even touching parts of the wreckage without protective gear could pose serious dangers.

“Even touching composite materials with bare hands can be dangerous. That’s why investigators go in with protective suits,” he cautioned in an interview on TV3’s KeyPoints.

He further explained that taking away parts from the site hampers the work of investigators who rely on every component to reconstruct the aircraft and determine the cause of the accident.

“We need the components to help reconstruct the aircraft and establish what happened. If people bring them back, it aids the investigation and prevents future risks,” he added.

Prof. Adjekum urged the public to cooperate fully with authorities and avoid tampering with the crash site, reminding them that their actions could delay investigations and compromise aviation safety.
