Traders who cross the line will pay GHC 2,000 – Accra Minister warns pavement sellers

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has issued a stern warning to traders operating illegally on streets and pavements within the Central Business District (CBD) of Accra: cross the red line, and you’ll pay up to GH₵2,000.
Her statement follows a major decongestion exercise carried out on Tuesday, May 20, by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, targeting hawkers and street vendors who have taken over walkways and unauthorized trading spaces.
“We are going to activate our task force to work 24 hours. They are going to draw a red line on the road, so with this, when you cross the line, you have a fee to pay, which is 1500gh, maximum 2000gh,” Madam Ocloo warned during the announcement.
She added that enforcement will be strict and constant, not just through the task force but also with support from appointed market leaders.
“We are going to make sure that we have leaders in all the markets who will be monitoring, aside from the task force, and make sure that the right things are being done.”
This latest action is part of a broader effort by city authorities to enforce sanitation regulations, ease traffic congestion, and restore order to the heart of the capital.
